A Mumbai-based surgeon recently shared a list of the five best and worst foods for overall health, and according to him, ramen scored a shocking 0/10.

Mumbai-based orthopaedic surgeon Dr Manan Vora took to Instagram to share a list of the five best and worst foods for overall health. He rated ramen, mangoes, watermelon, broccoli, and Parmesan cheese. While cheese and watermelon scored a solid 8/10, mangoes received a 7.5 due to their high natural sugar content. Broccoli earned an impressive 9/10, being considered one of the most nutrient-dense foods in the world.
“Not all foods are equal; some nourish, some just fill. Ramen is highly processed, high in sodium, and offers almost no real nutrition. On the other hand, foods like broccoli and watermelon provide hydration, fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants that support overall health. Even nutrient-dense options like mango and parmesan are beneficial but only in the right quantity,” he wrote in the caption.
He went on to add, “Health is not about extremes, it’s about balance. Choose wisely, portion smartly, and build your plate with intention.”

Dr Vora went on to explain why he gave these ratings to the best and worst foods for health –
1. Ramen: He explained that ramen is a highly processed food. These noodles are high in sodium and refined carbohydrates, while offering very little in terms of micronutrients and fibre.
2. Mango: The king of fruits is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, fibre, and polyphenols. They are great for immunity, skin, and digestion. However, due to their natural sugar content, they should be consumed in moderation, especially by people with diabetes.
3. Watermelon: This summer fruit is made up of about 90% water, making it a refreshing addition to your diet. It is a good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, beta-carotene, and lycopene, and may also support heart health.
4. Broccoli: This nutrient-dense vegetable is packed with vitamin C, vitamin K, fibre, folate, and sulforaphane, making it a must-have in a balanced diet.
5. Parmesan Cheese: This flavourful cheese is rich in calcium and a good source of protein and vitamin K2, both of which support bone health.
