The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has recognised the historic Gollala Gudi temple in Palampet village of Mulugu district, Telangana, as a monument of national importance. Telangana’s Gollala Gudi Temple Added To India’s Monument List
According to reports by Telangana Today, the declaration brings the lesser-known temple into the national heritage framework and acknowledges its architectural and sculptural significance. Gollala Gudi is an example of the unique temple-building traditions associated with the Kakatiya period and adds to the rich architectural heritage of the Palampet region.
The temple is a ‘Trikutalaya’, or a three-shrined temple, with an east-facing mandapa surrounded by three garbhagrihas. Its architectural detailing includes a parapet decorated with sculptures, while the entablature and doorways feature rows of carved hamsas, along with intricate jali work. These ornamental elements are among the notable features of the temple.

Two detached shrines stand in front of the main temple. The shrines are beautifully carved and feature figures of dvarapalas, or guardian deities, at their entrances. Antichambers in front of the shrines are decorated with finely carved cornices and ornamental screens, adding to the visual richness of the complex.
The Recognition To Further Highlight The Architectural Heritage
The main temple has a portico at the entrance leading into a central hall, with three shrines and antichambers positioned towards the north, south and west. Its walls contain several niches featuring images of Hindu deities, including Vishnu, Lakshmi, Ganesha and Mahishasuramardini.
The temple stands on a high plinth decorated with carvings of animals and floral motifs. The combination of its elevated base, sculptural details, ornate doorways and three-shrine layout reflects the craftsmanship and architectural style of the period.

The newly notified monument is situated close to the Ramappa Temple, one of Telangana’s most significant heritage landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
