“They Don’t Flush The Toilet,” Kerala Airport Attendant Reveals Lack Of Civic Sense Among Travellers In Viral Post

Airports witness thousands of fliers on a day-to-day basis, scrambling feverishly to reach their gates, squeeze in last-minute shopping, and grab a quick bite. Amidst the humdrum, what some forget along the way is civic sense. An empty wrapper tossed needlessly on the floor. Toilets left unflushed. Loud chattering with utter disregard for fellow travellers. Recently, a woman took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her conversation with a toilet attendant at Kerala Airport. What she shared was heartbreaking to say the least.

Toilet Attendant At Kerala Airport Reveals People Don’t Even Flush

Nirupama Menon Rao, an author, was recently at an airport in Kerala. While using the washroom, she struck up a conversation with the toilet attendant. The lady quietly told her that women travellers at the Kerala airport don’t even flush the toilet after its use. A gesture that takes less than a second is callously ignored by many. An utter disregard for civic sense!

The author stressed that the attendant keeps the toilets clean with grace and dignity. Yet, very few women even bother to say thank you. She wrote, “We’re quick to salute the flag, but slow to respect the floor beneath it.” Rao urged that civic sense is simple. All it requires is to flush the toilet, keep it clean and say “thank you.” It’s important to acknowledge the unseen. “It starts with me, you, them, everybody.” The author stated that it should be a national calling. That toilet attendant who serves the nation needs to be respected.

She called them polite and nice. And stressed the need to respect them.

“Unfortunately, even educated people often neglect basic hygiene,” wrote a person. “If I keep it clean, I hope others before and after me do the same,” wrote the individual.
