This Is India’s First Traffic Light-Free City That Uses Flyovers To Keep Vehicles Moving 24×7

Traffic light free city

Every Indian city is striving to stand out and contribute to a smarter India. But recently, one city has outdone itself, and it’s not Bengaluru or Mumbai. This time, it’s Kota, which has become the country’s first traffic light–free city. Scroll down to know more details.

Kota Becomes India’s First Traffic-Light Free City

Kota in Rajasthan, famously known as India’s coaching capital, is now the first city in the country to run completely without traffic signals. Kota now stands out not only for its coaching centres but also for how it manages traffic and enhances daily urban life.

According to News18, the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) Kota took charge and planned this traffic change with a future-ready mindset. Their team studied how the city functions, how students travel, and how citizens move daily. Then they made a new roadmap. With this move, people in Kota can now reach classes, workplaces, coaching centres, bus stands, and markets on time. Commuters do not feel stressed due to signals and long standstills.

New Development In The City

UIT built a network of ring roads in such a way that vehicles easily bypass usual traffic zones, reported News18. Kota has also added more than two dozen flyovers and underpasses at busy intersections. Now, vehicles no longer need to stand at red lights or wait for turns. These moves by authorities ensure that everyone in the city can not only move faster but can also avoid frequent accidents caused by sudden braking. These new plans also play a crucial role in reducing fuel consumption.

This transformation shows that smart planning can reduce the need for traffic signals. Kota proves that better infrastructure can replace old systems. It also shows that cities do not always need high-end technology to manage traffic. Sometimes, better design, proper mapping and sensible engineering give practical results. Kota simply identified the right locations for flyovers, underpasses and ring roads and executed them with planning.
