Thomas Cook Chandigarh

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Chandigarh has asked Thomas Cook, a tour and travel firm, to pay ₹2 lakh to two Mohali residents. The reason? The firm failed to provide a smooth tour to the two people who had apparently paid ₹7.61 lakh for a Scandinavian tour.

Chandigarh Commission Asks Thomas Cook To Pay ₹2 lakh

Thomas Cook is one of the world’s oldest and most well-known travel and tour firms. But recently, it found itself in trouble. According to The Indian Express, the firm failed to provide a smooth and comfortable travel experience to two Mohali residents. This is why the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Chandigarh asked the company to pay ₹2 lakh in compensation.

Reportedly, the complaint was filed by Rupinder and Harvinder Singh Sandhu. They had apparently booked Thomas Cook’s ‘Scenic Scandinavia Summer 2025’ package for June 12-22, 2025, paying ₹7.61 lakh. Despite opting for a premium package, the services they received were not up to the mark. They faced prolonged delays, late-night hotel check-ins, irregular meals and even physical exhaustion after the tour bus broke down repeatedly on June 16, 17 and 18, 2025.

Commission Rejects Thomas Cook’s Argument

According to The Indian Express, the complainants from Mohali alleged that these problems deprived them of a comfortable trip. According to them, Thomas Cook had promised a hassle-free experience. In its defence, the tour firm submitted that the complainants had booked the tour after accepting all the terms and conditions.

According to the company, the coach breakdown resulted from an unforeseen technical snag. Thomas Cook also highlighted that it served as a travel agent and organiser. The firm facilitated services through independent contractors such as airlines, hotels and coach operators and should not be held responsible for problems attributed to these independent service providers.

The company also argued that the incident was beyond its control and that replacement arrangements, refreshments and meals had been provided to passengers. However, the Commission rejected the company’s stand. It highlighted that a consumer books a tour and expects a hassle-free experience. According to the Commission, Thomas Cook had assured the complainants of services under a package and should be responsible for them.
