In Mumbai local trains, many people prefer to skip the long queues and travel without a ticket. Sometimes, passengers may even forget to buy one. However, ticket checkers regularly inspect tickets, and passengers without a valid ticket may have to pay a fine. At times, heated arguments can also erupt between ticket checkers and passengers. To reduce such disputes, Western Railway has now introduced a new initiative.
How Western Railway Plans To Reduce Ticket-Checking Disputes In Mumbai Locals
Under the Namaste Campaign, the Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway has launched a project. This project aims to reduce fights between ticket checkers and passengers. As per News18, now, for ticket-checking staff on AC Mumbai local trains, the railway has prepared 15 body cameras and 30 specially designed jackets.
With these body cameras, the authorities plan to record audio and video during ticket-checking interactions. Later, if a ticket checker or passenger raises a complaint, the authorities can check this footage. It will help them understand what caused the dispute and determine what happened.

More About Body Camera System
The body cameras will be attached to the front of a specially designed jacket worn by ticket-checking staff. The microphone in it will capture every interaction. These recordings will be stored on the camera’s SD card, allowing railway officials to review them whenever a complaint or dispute needs to be investigated.
This special jacket has been designed as a mobile workstation for ticket-checking staff. With so many compartments in the jacket, ticket checkers can carry all the necessary equipment. Also, with this new initiative, the ticket-checking staff will be encouraged to speak to passengers politely.
