To Improve Work-Life Balance, Karnataka Police Can Now Take Leaves On Birthdays & Anniversaries

Police officers spend festivals on duty, long weekends are often a myth, and leave can be cancelled at any time because work always comes first. Recognising this constant stress and aiming to improve work-life balance, the Karnataka Police has issued a circular allowing officers and staff to avail casual leave on special occasions such as their birthdays and wedding anniversaries.

Karnataka Police Can Now Avail Leaves On Special Occasions

According to NDTV, the Karnataka State Police Headquarters has issued a circular allowing its officers and staff to take leaves on birthdays and wedding anniversaries. The decision was issued on Thursday by Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) MA Saleem.

The circular directs all unit heads to grant leave whenever officers or staff request time off for their birthdays or wedding anniversaries. Furthermore, all unit officers across the state have been instructed to follow the directive to ensure it is implemented uniformly.

Why Was This Step Important?

The initiative to grant casual leave to Karnataka police officers and staff on special occasions aims to support their emotional well-being, boost morale, and promote a healthy work-life balance. The circular emphasises that such leave will allow personnel to “recharge emotionally, spend quality time with family, and maintain a balance between duty and personal life.”

Calling it a “humane measure,” the circular highlighted the sacrifices made by police personnel while fostering loyalty and strengthening commitment within the department. Considering the long hours, high pressure, and unpredictable nature of police work, this step is both thoughtful and well justified.
