According to The Economic Times, the UK has increased visa fees across visitor, student and work categories, with most seeing a 6-7% hike. Effective April 8, the British High Commission in India said the revision is aimed at improving the visa system and ensuring more efficient service delivery.

As per reports, this visa fee hike is part of the UK’s effort to create a more streamlined and digital immigration system. In a public statement, they said, “UK visa costs are changing from 8 April 2026. We are making improvements to deliver a more streamlined, digital immigration system, and the global increase in visa fees will help ensure we continue to offer customers a strong, secure and efficient visa service.”

All You Need To Know About This

The updated fee structure, listed on the UK government’s website, reflects higher charges across major visa categories. For example, the cost of a short-term visit visa (up to six months) has risen from £127 (₹15,788) to £135 (₹16,782), while a long-term visa valid for up to 10 years is now priced at £1,128 (₹1,40,272).

Here’s the revised UK visa fee –

  • Visit Visa (up to 6 months) – Increased from £127 to £135
  • Visit Visa (up to 2 years) – Up from £475 to £506
  • Visit Visa (up to 5 years) – Hiked from £848 to £903
  • Visit Visa (up to 10 years) – Visa fee up from £1059 to £1128
  • Study Visa – Student visa fee has gone up from £524 to £558
  • Work Visa (Skilled, ≤3 years) – Has been increased from £769 to £819
