Goa is not just known for its beaches, food and nightlife but also for its casinos! It is one of the few places in India where gambling is considered legal. But now, the state government has banned the entry of anyone below the age of 21 into any onshore or offshore casino.

Goa Bans Casino Entry For People Below 21

The government of Goa has now tightened regulations governing casino operations. It has barred the entry of people below 21 years of age into casino gaming areas. According to The Times of India, people under this age will not be able to enter areas where a licensee installs and operates games of electronic amusement/slot machines or table games in a five-star hotel or a vessel.

Apart from fixing the age limit for casinos, the government also stated that for any delayed payment of the annual recurring fee, the licensee will have to pay penal interest of 18% per annum on the outstanding amount. Moreover, the government has also approved the Goa Public Gambling Rules to regulate casino operations in the state.

New Rules To Be Introduced For Casinos

According to The Times of India, once the new rules come into effect, the gaming commissioner will have to maintain a record of the number of visitors to a casino. However, it should be noted that this rule does not mean a complete ban on casino entry. It means a ban on entry into the active gaming zones of casinos.

You should know that Goa is not just popular for its beaches but also for its casinos. The state has dozens of onshore and six offshore operational casinos. Travellers in Goa spend their days relaxing at the beach and their evenings gambling at gaming zones in casinos. There are two types of casinos in Goa. One is offshore cruise casinos, which are large luxury vessels anchored on the Mandovi River in Panaji. The other type is onshore casinos located inside five-star hotels.
