Inside 400-Year-Old Mauli Devi Temple In Goa
Located in Pedne in North Goa, Shree Devi Mauli Temple is devoted to Goddess Mauli, a form of Goddess Durga and the Kuldevi (family deity) of many families from the region, including the Pednekars. The ancient shrine is an iconic spiritual symbol and attracts devotees seeking blessings for prosperity, protection and family well-being.
The temple is famous for its distinctive Indo-Portuguese architectural style and beautiful Kaavi art, a traditional reddish-brown mural technique unique to the Konkan region. One of its most intriguing features is a natural freshwater stream and waterfall within the temple complex. According to local belief, the water has healing and medicinal properties.

Bhumi Pednekar Celebrates Her Birthday In Goa
For many devotees, visiting Mauli Devi Temple is part of a customary three-temple pilgrimage in Pedne. The spiritual path also includes the Ravalnath Temple, dedicated to the village’s guardian deity, believed to protect the Pednekar clan, and the Bhagwati Devi Temple, sacred to Goddess Bhagwati, an incarnate form of Shakti.
Sharing the pictures from her visit, Bhumi wrote, “I am a year wiser :) Started my day seeking blessings from my Kul Devi. May she bring love, light and prosperity in all our lives. Thank you for your messages and calls. I feel very, very loved today.”
This is not the first time the actor has visited the temple. During a 2020 trip to her ancestral village in Pedne, she had spoken about the deep cultural and spiritual significance of the shrine, which has remained central to her family’s traditions for generations.

Bhumi had earlier shared that the Ravalnath Temple stands beside her ancestral home and preserves some of her family’s earliest historical records. Devotees traditionally visit Ravalnath before or after offering prayers to Mauli Devi and seek blessings before important milestones such as marriages, house construction and new beginnings.
The pilgrimage concludes at the Bhagwati Devi Temple, considered the cultural and spiritual heart of the village. Together, these three shrines reflect Goa’s rich religious heritage and continue to preserve traditions that have been followed by local families for centuries.
