What does it take to put ₹55 lakh of your own savings behind a film when everyone around you is suggesting a safer route? For Anupriya Nagar, the answer was simple; she believed in the story. In a conversation with Kamiya Jani on Curly Tales’ Stories From Bharat, the producer of Hanuman Ansh, a film inspired by Neem Karoli Baba, opens up about backing her instincts when the stakes were high.
Anupriya Nagar Invested ₹50-55 Lakh Of Her Savings In Hanuman Ansh
While the film industry often revolves around box-office numbers and commercial viability, Anupriya Nagar had something else on her mind. She wanted her film to reach theatres, and she was willing to take a chance on that dream.
Anupriya recalls how people suggested releasing Hanuman Ansh directly on OTT. She, however, was convinced that the film deserved a theatrical release. That decision meant putting ₹50-55 lakh of her personal savings into a project that could just as easily have failed commercially. Yet, she says she would never regret making that choice.
Even if the film had flopped, she would have remembered why she made it, the thought that went into the project and everything she learnt along the way. Her parents backed her, too. Rather than asking her to play it safe, they encouraged her to trust her judgement and go ahead with what she believed in.

Why Anupriya Nagar Chose A Theatrical Release Over OTT
For Anupriya Nagar, money has never been the destination. It is a means to get somewhere that matters. She sees it as a tool that allows people to pursue their passions, bring their ideas to life and do things they might otherwise never attempt. That belief explains why she was prepared to take such a substantial financial risk for a story she wanted to tell.
She was also thinking beyond the immediate box-office numbers. Even if young audiences did not watch Hanuman Ansh today, she believed they might discover it 20, 25 or even 35 years later on OTT. The possibility that a story could find its audience decades down the line was reason enough to take the leap.
Sometimes, the real measure of a decision is whether you can stand by it years later.
