At just 21, Anupriya Nagar has made a name for herself in the Indian film industry. The young producer, who backed the devotional blockbuster Hanuman Ansh, recently opened up about her journey, faith and experiences in a conversation with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, on the latest episode of Stories From Bharat.

Who Is Anupriya Nagar, The Young Producer Behind Hanuman Ansh?

Anupriya’s journey into filmmaking was far from conventional. A graduate in Economics from the University of Bath in the UK, she had initially planned to pursue a career in the art industry. Her interest in Neem Karoli Baba began while she was researching influential technology entrepreneurs and came across the saint’s connection with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

That discovery encouraged her to learn more about the spiritual leader and eventually brought her to filmmaker Vishal Chaturvedi, who was working on Hanuman Ansh. What began as an interest in telling Neem Karoli Baba’s story soon turned into her first film production venture.

She invested the savings she had accumulated from three years of part-time jobs in the UK into the film’s post-production, coming on board as its co-producer.

Recalling her father’s initial reaction to her decision, Anupriya Nagar said, “When I told my parents about it, my father thought, ‘Meri beti bhatak gayi hai’.”

The Youngest Female Feature Film Producer

While discussing the film’s slow start and subsequent rise, Anupriya Nagar admitted that she was anxious ahead of Hanuman Ansh’s release. Being young and having no connections in the film industry made the experience even more daunting.

When Kamiya asked if she could be called one of the youngest producers in the industry, Anupriya shyly revealed that she had recently received recognition for the achievement.

“Yeah, I recently got an award. The London Book of World Records has awarded me as the ‘Youngest Feature Film Producer’ who has delivered a blockbuster in her first,” she shared.
