UK Asks Citizens To Stock Up On 3 Days Of Food & Water & It’s Not Because Of Any Immediate Emergency

The “Be Ready” campaign in the UK does not mean that people should start panic-buying or clearing supermarket shelves. They just have to pick up extra items that can last them three days.

The UK government is now asking its citizens to keep a three-day supply of food, water and other essentials at home as part of a campaign called “Be Ready”. The advice is not because of an immediate danger but for a very important reason. Keep reading to know why.

What Is The “Be Ready” Campaign In The UK?

According to The Guardian, every citizen in the UK is being urged to stock up on nine litres of bottled water and three days’ worth of non-perishable food. The reason? The government wants households to learn how to survive weather-related, cyber or other serious emergencies. The advice is not because of an immediate danger or a secret threat. Instead, officials want people to be able to survive and bounce back quickly if everyday services are temporarily cut off in the future.

The initiative, which is part of the “Be Ready” campaign, is being introduced amid growing concerns about the impact of climate change, technological dependence and hostile state threats. It is simple advice to help people prepare for a sudden emergency. The main goal is to make sure that households can look after themselves for 72 hours in an emergency.

How Will This Campaign Help?

According to The Times of India, the announcement follows a cybersecurity incident involving problems with PHP, a programming language used by websites and online services. The incident prompted organisations around the world to review their systems. Millions of hacking attempts were also reported. It is believed that, due to artificial intelligence, cyber incidents could become more frequent in the future. They could disrupt internet services and everyday activities, including online payments and the supply of food and water.

Moreover, the campaign also aims to help the UK stay prepared for emergencies. Other European nations, such as France, Germany and Sweden, have also given their citizens similar guidelines for years. If citizens can take care of their basic needs for a few days, emergency workers can focus entirely on helping vulnerable people. According to The Guardian, people are advised to keep a ready supply of blankets, cash, a first-aid kit, a wind-up FM radio, nine litres of water and tinned food at home.

But this does not mean that people should start panic-buying or clearing supermarket shelves. They just have to pick up extra items that can last them three days.
