Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani is always a little more fun when the guests have zero interest in being prim and proper, and Ekta Kapoor and Tusshar Kapoor understood the assignment. On the latest episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani visited the Kapoor siblings at their luxury property, The Vibe, in Kiwale, Pune. Between conversations about food, family, and their personal lives, Ekta dropped a rather hilarious truth bomb about her hypothetical acting career.

Ekta Kapoor Knew Acting Wasn’t Her Calling

Ekta Kapoor has given Indian television some of its most iconic saas-bahu dramas, but starring in one herself was never really the plan. During the conversation, she revealed that she always knew she wanted to work behind the camera rather than stand in front of it. Turns out, the woman who has spent decades creating larger-than-life characters was perfectly happy letting someone else play them.

Then came her brutally funny explanation for why becoming an actor would have been a terrible idea.

Ekta joked that if she had entered acting, she would have created an entirely new example of nepotism because, in all likelihood, her own family would have been the only people watching her films. That’s one way to assess your box-office potential before even signing your first movie!

She summed up the thought with the hilarious line, “Main itna kehar nahi dhaa sakti apni family par.”

Honestly, the self-awareness deserves a round of applause. In an industry where star kids and family connections are constantly debated, Ekta Kapoor chose to roast herself before anyone else could.

Ekta Kapoor Calls Herself An ‘Overfed Punjabi Kid’

The conversation also touched upon Ekta’s relationship with food and her body. Describing herself as an “overfed Punjabi kid”, she made it clear that food has always been a big part of her life. And if you’ve ever had a Punjabi foodie in your family, you know that being asked whether you’ve eaten is practically a love language.

She has spoken about weight-related issues, too, bringing her usual candidness to a subject that can often become unnecessarily uncomfortable.

Between her unapologetic love for food and her jokes about potentially disastrous acting ambitions, Ekta Kapoor gave us a glimpse of someone who doesn’t feel the need to take herself too seriously.
