First came bhajan jamming, where young Indians traded nightclub playlists for devotional songs and sang their hearts out together. Now, Gen Z seems to have found another way to bring devotion into its social scene: Mata Ki Chowki! And honestly, the latest Instagram video is hard to scroll past.

Gen Z Gives Mata Ki Chowki A Cool, Festive Twist

Think bright orange and yellow drapes, festive outfits, beautifully decorated seating, devotional singing and guests dancing along to the music. Only, this isn’t your usual Mata Ki Chowki. It’s got a distinctly Gen Z vibe, and the internet is taking notice.

The event was hosted by Yash Kalra, founder of protein oats brand GOAT Life, who shared glimpses of the gathering on Instagram. The video captures a group of young guests coming together for a Mata Ki Chowki, dressed in their festive best and joining in the devotional evening.

Guests can be seen singing, dancing and soaking in the bhakti-filled vibes. There’s devotion, there’s a whole lot of festive energy, and everyone’s clearly having a good time. It’s a reminder that for many young people, celebrating faith can also mean coming together with friends and creating memories.

And because this is Gen Z we’re talking about, the evening comes with its own quirky additions. While everyone was welcomed with tikka and mata ki chunni, the speakers weren’t blazing your regular bhajan and tunes–obviously!

The music was played live on electric guitar and cajón, there was also a ‘Punya Points’ counter at the venue! Yes, you read that right. The good ol’ donation or daan peti got a makeover too! Alongside the bhajans and celebrations, there’s a playful little detail that gives the gathering an unmistakably internet-era twist.

Gen Z Is Finding Its Own Way To Celebrate

There’s been plenty of conversation around younger Indians embracing devotional music in social settings, from bhajan jamming sessions to group singing gatherings. Now, Mata Ki Chowki seems to be getting its own moment in the spotlight.

What makes this trend interesting is how familiar traditions are finding space in the social lives of younger people. For some, it’s about reconnecting with faith; for others, it’s an opportunity to celebrate with friends in a setting that feels meaningful and fun.

And while the rituals remain rooted in tradition, the way people gather around them continues to evolve. Whether it’s singing bhajans together or hosting a full-fledged Mata Ki Chowki, Gen Z is showing that devotion doesn’t have to look just one way.

As for the ‘Punya Points’ counter? Well, that’s one way to make a traditional gathering memorable!
