Vande Bharat Express trains have changed the way people travel across India by cutting journey time by hours. Now, the network is getting another upgrade. To improve passenger comfort, Indian Railways is introducing the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat Express. The first such train is all set to run between Howrah and Guwahati. India’s First Sleeper Vande Bharat Express Train
Howrah and Guwahati are getting India’s first sleeper Vande Bharat Express train. According to Moneycontrol, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate this train on January 17, 2026. Built using technology developed by BEML and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), this sleeper train is designed for long-distance overnight travel.
The train will run with 16 coaches, including 11 AC three-tier coaches, four AC two-tier coaches, and one First AC coach. It is a semi-high-speed train with a design speed of up to 180 kmph. The service will run via Bandel Junction and will be maintained and operated by the Eastern Railway zone. During its journey, the Vande Bharat Sleeper will take a halt at stations such as Bandel, Katwa, New Farakka, Malda Town, New Jalpaiguri, New Coochbehar, and New Bongaigaon.

What Are The Ticket Prices?
Designed to offer a better travel experience, the train will provide three classes of travel: Third AC, Second AC, and First AC. As per The Indian Express, ticket prices are fixed at ₹2,300 for Third AC, ₹3,000 for Second AC, and ₹3,600 for First AC. The Railway Minister has confirmed that there will be no dynamic pricing for this service.
And now to the best part: food is included in the ticket price. Passengers travelling from Howrah to Guwahati will be served traditional Bengali dishes. On the return journey from Guwahati to Howrah, travellers will enjoy authentic Assamese cuisine. As they say, “jaise sheher, waisa bhojan.”
