Indian Railways To Launch 50 Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains

According to reports by NDTV, Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory (ICF) will manufacture 50 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, with each train comprising 24 coaches. The larger trainsets are anticipated to increase passenger capacity and allow the Railways to introduce sleeper services on more long-distance routes. The ICF General Manager, Manish Agarwal, told the portal that the production drawings for the indigenous 24-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets have been completed. The designs cover the coach structure, connections between coaches and equipment installed underneath the trains.

Each upcoming train will have 24 coaches, compared with the 16-coach sleeper train currently in operation. The longer configuration is expected to carry around 1.5 times more passengers. The final coach composition has not yet been officially confirmed. However, reports show that a trainset could include 17 AC 3-tier coaches, five AC 2-tier coaches, one AC First Class coach and one standard pantry car.

The additional trainsets are planned to support the expansion of Vande Bharat Sleeper services to more long-distance destinations, allowing passengers a faster and more modern option for overnight travel.

24-Coach Vande Bharat Train To Increase Seating & Sleeping Capacity

At present, the country’s Vande Bharat Sleeper service is functioning between Howrah and Kamakhya. The current train includes 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches and one AC First Class coach.

The planned 24-coach trains will substantially increase seating and sleeping capacity, although details of their routes and final coach configuration are yet to be released by Indian Railways.

Meanwhile, ICF has also posted an update on the Amrit Bharat Express 3.0. The next-generation trains are projected to feature AC, sleeper and general coaches, possibly offering a wider range of travel options while retaining the focus on cost-efficiency and improved comfort.
