The menu on Vande Bharat trains is set to get an upgrade. Passengers travelling on these trains may soon be able to relish local cuisines from the regions they pass through. This new initiative aims to reflect regional culture and tastes during the journey. Here’s more on this exciting update!
Vande Bharat To Serve Local Cuisine To Passengers During Journeys
According to a report by India TV News, Indian Railways is planning a major change to the food menu on Vande Bharat trains. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has directed officials to ensure that passengers are served local dishes during their journey. The aim is to highlight the importance of regional culture, food, and taste. The directive was reportedly issued during a review meeting held at Rail Bhawan. The meeting was also attended by Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Singh Bittu.
Introducing local cuisine is not just about food. The idea is to offer passengers a unique journey where they can taste the flavours of the regions they are travelling through. Although the initiative has been announced recently, authorities are working to launch and gradually expand it across trains in the future.

IRCTC Begins Meal Trials On Select Trains
According to a report by The Indian Express, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched Proof of Concept (PoC) meal trials on select Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat Express trains. The trials aim to improve onboard meal quality, upgrade kitchen infrastructure, streamline meal production, and enhance the transfer and service of meals across the supply chain.
The decision to serve local cuisine on Vande Bharat trains is amazing, right? Passengers may soon enjoy region-specific meals even before reaching their destination. For instance, travellers in southern regions could be served idlis and dosa, while those passing through western regions may be offered dishes like dhokla and thepla.
