As per a report by India Today, the plan received approval during a meeting of the municipal corporation’s governing body, which was held in Maidagin on Saturday under the chairmanship of Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari. Public Relations Officer Sandeep Srivastava stated that the governing body approved a plan to carefully move meat and fish markets to the city’s outskirts. Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal told the news portal that authorities have already found five locations in the first phase of the project.

According to officials, the chosen sites are situated near the city’s outer limits to prevent inconvenience to residents. Under the plan, meat and fish shops currently operating within the city will be shifted to areas like Ramnagar, Sujabad, Ganeshpur, Avleshpur and Shivpur.

The PR officer further stated that around 350 to 400 meat and fish shops currently function within the city limits. The new move aims to improve sanitation, simplify the functioning of such markets and guarantee continued access for consumers.

Traders Fear Loss Of Livelihoods, Inconvenience To Customers

Almost a year ago, Gulshan Ali said that the civic body had proposed shifting meat and fish shops outside the city, but authorities had not executed the plan effectively. He also addressed concerns raised by traders, stating the annual shutdown of meat shops during the holy month of Shravan seriously affects the livelihoods of people engaged in the meat business.

Responding to the issues, the authorities have already identified land on the city’s outskirts and will soon start the process of carrying out the proposal.
