Viral Post Shows Shoreline Near Mumbai’s Taj Hotel Looking Like A Landfill
An X user, Eternal Drift (@drifteternal_), took to his social media handle to show the other side of the popular tourist spots Gateway of India, and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. In the post, he mentioned that the shoreline looked like a landfill, with visible waste and a foul smell. He pointed out that the garbage had been lying there for a long time, raising concerns about cleanliness in such a major tourist area.
In the post, he also highlighted the contrast between the surroundings. While yachts were parked nearby and tourists were busy clicking photos, the polluted shoreline showed a different reality. This view led him to question how such conditions could exist beside such famous landmarks. Calling it embarrassing, he expressed frustration over the gap between the city’s image and the actual situation.

Post Sparks Disappointment Among Netizens
The post showing the dirty shoreline at one of the most famous areas in Mumbai has quickly gone viral across the internet. Many netizens have expressed their disappointment over the situation.
One user wrote, “I have seen many outsiders and tourists throwing garbage into the sea every day. Indians have zero civic sense.”
Another user added, “Can’t understand why @TajMahalMumbai is not bothered about giving its customers the best of Mumbai. Why aren’t you ensuring bins are available, the area is cleaned, and people are punished?”
One netizen commented, “Citizens are responsible for this. The government can clean it spotless, but will citizens follow their civic duty to keep it clean? Most people only care about keeping their homes clean. The country is ‘outside’ for them.”
