What Is An Art Holiday? Everything You Need To Know About This Creative Travel Trend

For different people, travel can mean different things. Some people enjoy learning about history, touring cities, and going to museums. Others like adventure, such as diving into the ocean or hiking mountains. There are also people who just want to unwind while enjoying delicious food, coffee, and shopping. However, a brand-new form of travel known as “art holiday” has been gaining popularity lately.

This idea came into the spotlight when content creator Vagmita Singh shared her experience in a viral Instagram video. While having dinner at a pizzeria in Italy, she met a well-travelled couple who told her they were on an “art holiday.” Curious, she asked what that meant, and their answer opened up a whole new world of travel.

An art holiday isn’t like any other vacation. The primary focus of this unique travel experience is creativity. Instead of simply visiting popular places, you can paint, sketch, and use your artistic skills to actually depict your vision of the location. It’s like taking a trip through the eyes of an artist.

Generally, during an art holiday, a group of tourists are led by a celebrity artist or art instructor. This tour involves visits to castles, palaces, gardens, and old towns; some of these are even closed to the general public. And they don’t just get access to these lovely locations; they get to actually soak in the surroundings and paint their emotions on the canvas. The end goal of this holiday isn’t to come back a seasoned artist with a collection of beautiful pieces. Instead, it is to enjoy the process while establishing a connection with the location.

Best Places To Experience This Unique Way Of Travelling

Europe is a popular destination for art vacations because history and art coexist there.

  • Tuscany, Italy: Well-known for its hills, charming villages, and vineyards, Tuscany offers a stunning backdrop for paintings.
  • Provence, France: Artists like Cézanne and Van Gogh have drawn inspiration from Provence, well-known for its lavender fields and pastel-coloured villages.
  • Barcelona, Spain: Gaudí’s whimsical buildings and Barcelona’s colourful beaches will appeal to artists who love colour and energy.
  • Prague, Czech Republic: With its gothic towers and cobblestone streets, Prague offers a beautiful setting for paintings.
  • Santorini, Greece: The contrast between the deep blue sea and the blue domes and white houses offers stunning artistic inspiration.

During traditional vacations, we frequently have to hurry from one tourist destination to another. But here, you pause. You notice how the light shifts through the day and how nature sounds around you. It’s also incredibly social, where you meet people who share your creative side.

Art holidays are for anyone who wants to travel differently. You don’t have to be an artist or even good at painting. You come home not just with photos, but with artwork you created, memories you painted, and stories you lived.
