What Is Bengaluru’s Garbage Dumping Festival? All About GBA’s Clean-Up Message For The City!

One thing every Indian city struggles with is keeping its surroundings clean. It is everyone’s responsibility, but not everyone takes it seriously. Bengaluru, known as the Garden City, has been facing littering issues for years. Now, the city authorities have come up with a creative and bold way to deal with it—something that’s catching everyone’s attention. They have introduced the “Garbage Dumping Festival.” Read on to know what it’s all about.

Garbage Dumping Festival In Bengaluru

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), along with the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), has launched a unique initiative called the “Garbage Dumping Festival.” The name may sound unusual, but it aims to teach people a lesson about keeping the city clean. Under this campaign, anyone caught throwing garbage on the streets will have their trash delivered right back to their doorstep, reported NDTV.

Yes, you read that right! If residents dump waste on the Bengaluru road, the GBA teams will collect it and return it to their homes as a “return gift.” The officials say this move is meant to make people more aware and responsible for their own waste. It’s a strong and rather symbolic way of saying, “If you litter, you’ll get it back.”

More About This Unique Festival

In talks with NDTV, BSWML Chief Executive Officer Karigowda explained that around 5,000 autos go door-to-door every day in Bengaluru to collect dry and wet waste from households. Despite this, many people still choose to dump garbage in public spaces. To stop this habit, the new campaign sends a direct message to offenders.

To track those who litter, the GBA has installed CCTV cameras across the city. They also receive videos from citizens who report people throwing garbage on the roads. The authorities have also mentioned that offenders will be charged ₹2,000 as a penalty. Moreover, in those areas where garbage collection is less frequent, the city is installing large dustbins to make disposal easier.
