Delhi Is Working On A Major Yamuna Cycle Project
Delhiites, your city is all set to be transformed. The government is planning one of the biggest non-motorised projects in the capital. According to a report by India Today, officials are planning a 53 km continuous cycling and walking track along both banks of the Yamuna River. The track stretches from Wazirabad Barrage to NH-24 and Kalindi Kunj Biodiversity Park. The corridor will become a clean and scenic route for lakhs of residents and cyclists of the city.
Reportedly, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will execute the Yamuna Cycle Project in three phases. Phase one is scheduled to begin in early 2026, and it will take 12 months to complete. Authorities expect the entire corridor to be ready within three years.

A Clean Space To Spend Time Outdoors
As per a report by India Today, tenders for the Yamuna Cycle Project have already been issued, and most approvals are in place. The corridor is not just designed as a mobility project but also as Delhi’s major step towards the environment. It will connect existing riverfront parks, biodiversity zones and open green spaces developed over the last two years. The path will allow cycling, walking and spending time in nature.
Reportedly, the Yamuna cycle track will run along both riverbanks: 23 km on the western bank and 30 km on the eastern bank. Authorities will not allow any construction in sensitive floodplain areas. Strict environmental rules during work will also be followed. Moreover, the track will be safe, well-lit and will have clearly marked cycling paths.
The best part? The Yamuna Cycle Project will promote cycling, which can reduce traffic on major roads and lower the need for cars. Delhi already has many cycling groups, and this new corridor will definitely be a new addition to their list. Moreover, officials expect it to become a popular spot for morning and evening walks.
