The decision was taken amid rising concerns over disturbance to wildlife due to unregulated tourism activities in the area. Keep reading to know more about this new development.

No More Night Safari In The Jawai Leopard Reserve

According to The Times of India, no safari or wildlife spotting activities will take place in the Jawai Leopard Reserve in Rajasthan beyond the prescribed hours of 6 am to 7 pm. The decision was taken by a bench of Justices Sandeep Shah and Pushpendra Singh Bhati after hearing a public interest litigation filed by a resident, Apoorva Agrawal.

Reportedly, these restrictions are in line with the norms followed at Ranthambore National Park. Banning night safaris at the Jawai Leopard Reserve will minimise disturbance and reduce stress among wild animals, especially during evening hours.

Rajasthan Bans Use Of Torchlights, Drones & More In Reserve

According to The Times of India, the Rajasthan High Court has also directed authorities to strictly prohibit the use of torchlights, searchlights, spotlights, drones, and similar devices in the reserve. These devices, commonly used for locating or observing wildlife, can interfere with animals’ natural behaviour, habits, and mood. These artificial lights can also cause them significant stress, which is not good for them.

Moreover, any misconduct by safari operators, hospitality staff, and visitors towards wildlife will invite strict action. No one can harass or interfere with wild animals unless they want to invite trouble. The bench also emphasised that environmental protection and safeguarding forests and wildlife are essential responsibilities of the government.
