What’s New At IGI Airport Terminal 3 & How Will It Change Your Travel Experience?

Every few days, we hear about new things authorities are planning to upgrade and make the travel experience more amazing. Now, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has been added to this upgrade list. The airport is taking a big step by restructuring Terminal 3. How will this change the travel experience?

Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 Set For Restructuring

It has been decided that by restructuring Terminal 3 at Delhi Airport, authorities will now handle more international flights, making it easier for travellers to connect across the world. The airport is converting “Pier C” at Terminal 3 into a fully international facility. Hindustan Times reported that, according to sources, it could start operating as early as next week, once all clearances are complete.

Right now, Terminal 3 has four piers: two for international flights and two for domestic. Once Pier C opens for international use, there will be three international piers and just one domestic pier. But why this sudden change? It’s because international travel from India is on the rise, especially to Southeast Asia and Central Asia.

How Much Is The Daily International Traffic At Airport?

Every day, Delhi Airport sees around 105,000 passengers, with roughly 60,000 international and 45,000 domestic travellers. Looking at these numbers, it’s clear who’s leading the pack. As per Hindustan Times, despite this, the number of passengers connecting between international flights, called transit traffic, has been quite low. Right now, only about 4,000 travellers transfer between international flights each day. The airport is planning to change that with new infrastructure and smarter procedures.

The new Pier C will be part of an airside transfer system. This means passengers can move securely between flights without leaving the airport zone. Officials say special buses will carry transit passengers directly between terminals, making it easier to catch connections without stress.
