Not just that, authorities also plan to upgrade the city’s parks and give them a major facelift. Here’s everything you need to know.
MCD To Revamp Key Markets Across Delhi
Markets are the heartbeat of Delhi. Many key markets in the city are renowned not only for shopping but also for their food offerings. This is why some of these attract a large number of visitors every day. Now, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to rejuvenate several markets and commercial hubs. According to a report by Hindustan Times, in the first phase, the corporation has proposed revamping these markets:
- Netaji Subhash Place in Pitampura
- Local Shopping Centre in Vasant Kunj
- Janakpuri District Centre
- South Moti Bagh Market
- Mangalam Palace Market in Rohini
- Local Shopping Centre in Karkardooma
- Deep Market in Ashok Vihar
The proposals have been submitted to the Delhi government. Parts of the project will be funded through the Chief Minister Development Fund. The redevelopment plans include road carpeting, relaying of footpaths, redesigning park areas, and developing open walking plazas. Moreover, the total cost of the first phase of the project has been estimated at around ₹145.09 crore.

DDA Plans Theme-Based Facelift Of Parks
That’s not all. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is planning to redevelop a section of its 700 parks with theme-based designs. According to Hindustan Times, authorities plan to redevelop or restore green spaces based on site-specific requirements. Officials will assess and identify the parks that can be taken up for development.
The project will cover neighbourhood parks, plazas, and public open spaces. Floodplain parks, wetland parks, and biodiversity parks will also be included. Moreover, authorities will likely develop heritage and cultural greens associated with monuments and historically significant landmarks such as Mehrauli Archaeological Park.
Under the initial stage of the process, consultants will undertake detailed topographical surveys of slopes, drains, manholes, trees, permanent structures, and more. After this, the project will move ahead.
