Navi Mumbai International Airport, which opened just a few months ago, is already bustling with many travellers every day. Now, this newly-opened airport is set to get a new name. Yes! Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport will be named after the late D B Patil. Scroll down to know more about him!

Navi Mumbai International Airport To Be Named

At a public meeting in Airoli, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared that the international airport in Navi Mumbai will carry the name of Dinkar Balu Patil, popularly known as DB Patil. In his speech, he also said that Patil was a leader who always stood with the people, especially farmers.

According to IndiaTV, Dinkar Balu Patil, better known as DB Patil, was a respected leader from Raigad district. He served as an MLA from Panvel between 1957 and 1980 and was well-known for fighting for farmers’ rights. Born in Jasai village of Uran taluka into a farming family, Patil completed his law degree in 1951 and began his public service after winning the Kolaba district local board election.

While the DY Patil Stadium reflects his family’s contributions to sports and development, DB Patil is remembered for his dedication to farmers. To honour his contributions, the new Navi Mumbai airport is set to be named after him.

Maharashtra CM On NMIA’s Future

Fadnavis said that Navi Mumbai is a natural extension of Mumbai and is expected to become the next major centre of economic growth. He explained that the new airport will support important sectors such as pharmaceuticals, innovation, food processing, services, and import-export. According to him, this will help Navi Mumbai grow economically and develop a more diverse and stable economy.

Recently, several posts have been going viral online, where travellers shared their experiences at the new airport. Many complained about limited connectivity, fewer food outlets, and infrastructure that did not meet expectations. Officials are already working on the next phases to improve services and enhance the overall airport experience.
