A video going viral on Instagram has caught attention for an unusual travel story: a mayor from Norway is exploring India in an auto-rickshaw. The clip features a Gujarati man who met the traveller during his journey in Gujarat. Introducing him, the man said, “I met this man from Norway. Why Is A Norwegian Mayor Travelling Across India In A Rickshaw?
The politician was identified as Jo Inge Hesjevik, whose Google profile was also shown in the video. “He is so down-to-earth. He is travelling in India in a tuk-tuk,” the man said, as Hesjevik smiled. Hesjevik was spotted in Limbdi, Gujarat, travelling in a colourful auto-rickshaw. He is accompanied by Øyvind Hesjevik and is taking part in the Rickshaw Run India, an adventure that involves travelling from Jaisalmer to Fort Kochi by auto-rickshaw between September 26 and October 9.
The unusual road trip has sparked plenty of reactions online, with many users praising the Norwegian mayor for travelling in such a simple and adventurous way. “He is a real hero, no attitude,” one user commented. Another wrote, “Probably his biggest flex of life afterwards. Chill guys, everyone has a bucket list.”

Some viewers also compared his adventure with Indian politicians, with one asking, “Do you expect this from any Indian politician?” Another remarked that Indians themselves rarely think of taking such a trip.
Norwegian Mayor Is Documenting His Journey On Facebook
Hesjevik has also been documenting his journey on Facebook. On September 26, he wrote that they were ready to leave Jaisalmer and would spend the next 14 days travelling across India in a tuk-tuk. Two days later, he shared an update saying they had already covered 1,400 km, with another 2,900 km left to go.

In his latest update on October 6, Hesjevik wrote that they had safely crossed Goa, although the journey had taken its toll on the vehicle. “One mirror less, some loose parts and some new dents,” he wrote. He also joked that Øyvind was doing his own laundry to save 30 kr (around ₹302), while a fish meal also cost them around ₹302.
