Delhi’s T2 To Shut Down Temporarily

As per a report by The Times of India, from Tuesday, the airlines, including IndiGo and Akasa, will shift operations from T2 to T1. The airport stated, “Effective April 15, 2025 (0001 hrs), all flights currently operating from Terminal 2 will shift to Terminal 1 until further notice.” IndiGo stated that it had taken active measures to ensure that its customers were well-informed about this change. The airline is also communicating with all passengers and their respective travel agents through SMSes, calls and emails to notify them. IndiGo further suggests searching for the PNR on the airline’s website or mobile app to check the departure/arrival terminal before travelling to the airport. Akasa also stated that all their flights to and from Delhi would operate from T1.

T2 is scheduled to reopen in four to five months, and by then, Delhi-NCR’s second airport at Noida will start its operations. Noida Airport may extend the lifespan of T2, which is to be removed to make way for a bigger T4, as the previous one is expected to impact the tourist numbers at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Airport has a capacity to handle around 11 crore passengers annually and recorded 7.8 crore last year.

Noida Airport To Open Soon

With Noida Airport set to open with an annual passenger capacity of 1.2 crore, which is expected to expand to 7 crore in the coming years, there is currently no immediate urgency to demolish Terminal 2. Meanwhile, while Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) may slow down plans for the proposed T4, it will need to speed up work on the delayed air train project at IGIA, considered essential for seamless inter-terminal transfers.
