A flyover in Thane’s Kasarvadavali area is set to close after cracks and a hanging concrete portion were spotted on the structure. The Kasarvadavali flyover, which was opened in July 2025 to ease congestion on Ghodbunder Road, was closed to vehicles from 11:59 PM on September 15. The closure will continue until the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) completes its inspection.
What Happened At Kasarvadavali Flyover In Thane?
According to Hindustan Times, the issue came to light on Sunday after a video showing a concrete portion hanging from the flyover circulated among local residents and commuters. The damage was reportedly spotted around the middle section of the flyover, near its joints.
Following the alert, teams from the MMRDA and other agencies inspected the spot. Traffic on the flyover was also stopped for a few hours before vehicles were allowed to resume movement.
The exact reason behind the cracks has not yet been established. While a civil engineer reportedly suggested that improper filling of sand at the joints could be a possible factor, this has not been confirmed by authorities. The MMRDA inspection is expected to determine the cause and assess the condition of the structure.

Why Is The Flyover Being Closed?
The flyover is being closed as a precaution while the MMRDA carries out its inspection. The structure is only around 14 months old and was inaugurated on July 8, 2025.
The flyover was built primarily to divert Gujarat-bound traffic from the roads below and help ease congestion around Kasarvadavali and the surrounding residential areas.
It is to be noted that the closure could add pressure to the already busy Ghodbunder Road. The flyover had helped divert some heavy vehicles and traffic heading towards Ahmedabad away from the road below.
According to Thane traffic police, vehicles can use the slip roads to travel towards Gaimukh during the closure. However, the exact duration of the shutdown has not been announced and will depend on the time required for the MMRDA to complete its inspection.
For now, the MMRDA will inspect the flyover to determine the extent and cause of the damage. Until the assessment is complete, the flyover will remain closed to vehicular traffic.

For commuters in the area, the closure means traffic will have to use alternative routes, including the slip roads, while the inspection is underway.
