The Indian government recently issued an advisory for Indian nationals and students currently staying in Canada. In times of political tensions flaring between India and Canada, this advisory has been released. It comes with a set of statements for Indian citizens in this foreign country and mentions some advice on avoiding travel to some parts of Canada.

Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, took to the X (formerly Twitter) platform to share the advisory for Indian nationals and Indian students in Canada.

The advisory is for the citizens of India in the foreign land and also for people contemplating travelling there. The Ministry of External Affairs has urged these people to exercise utmost caution “in view of growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada”.

Threats have targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda recently, the advisory added further. Therefore, the Ministry of External Affairs advised the nationals to avoid travelling to Canada’s regions and potential venues that have witnessed these kinds of incidents.

Indian students are advised to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant particularly, due to the deteriorating security environment in Canada.

What Are The Steps Taken To Focus On Indians’ Safety In Canada?

In this advisory, the Ministry of External Affairs stated how the High Commission/ Consulates General is going to continue to be in contact with the authorities of Canada to ensure the safety and well-being of the Indian citizens and community living in Canada. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian nationals and students in Canada should register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulates General of India in Toronto and Vancouver. To follow the registration process, people can do it through their websites or the MADAD portal madad.gov.in.

This step is going to help the High Commission and the Consulates General to connect with Indian nationals in Canada in a better way in the incidents of “any emergency or untoward incident.”
