In simple terms, as an Indian nationality passport holder, the more number of countries you can visit visa-free to, the more powerful your passport is. On that note, the Indian passport has dropped to the 84th spot in the world’s most powerful passport index 2020 in the rankings compiled by Henley & Partners. It has slipped down by 4 positions since 2019, where India was ranked on the 80th position. Now even though 84 is numerically a bigger number than 80, it indicates a weaker passport. But fret not, you can still visit 58 countries totally visa-free this year.
What’s In It?
Based on the data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the research department of Henley & Partners, Henley Passport Index has been ranking the world’s most powerful passports with precision. India might have slipped to the 84th position this year, but Indian passport holders can still travel visa-free to 58 countries like Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Macao, Bhutan, Cambodia, Nepal, Kenya, Myanmar, Qatar, Uganda, Iran, Seychelles and Zimbabwe.

And it has been ranked right at the top for the third consecutive year with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a massive number of 191 countries. This information is stated by the Passport Index 2020 released by global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley and Partners. Japan has been able to get this coveted position as it managed to get ahead of Singapore and even receive a visa on arrival access to Saudi Arabia, which Singapore did not. Singapore is ranked in the second position with a score of 190.
