Indian Railways is taking significant steps to enhance travellers’ experience and also revolutionise the sector with new introductions. Rail connectivity is improving all around the nation connecting different states and places in different parts of India. After the massive success of Vande Baharat Express, now Indian Railways’ goal is to launch the Vande Bharat sleeper train as a part of the 100-day plan. The statutory body has some grand ideas and plans for the new government. Under the 100-day plan of Indian Railways, there are several crucial projects connecting across India. Some of the major highlights are to introduce the Vande Bharat sleeper train soon, work on rolling stock procurement for the bullet train, and finish the important railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir that will connect the destination with other parts of the country.

According to a report by The Economic Times, some officials stated that Indian Railways is working on the ideas for these railway projects to execute them efficiently by the first 100 days of the new government’s tenure. The primary focus is currently on enhancing rail connectivity and also providing comfort to all passengers with these new developments.

The rolling stock procurement for the bullet train needs to be completed so that the trial runs can be conducted by August 2026. The government has already expanded the budgetary allocation for rolling stock production. According to a report by The Times of India, it is more than ₹1 lakh crore. This was increased in the 2024-25 interim budget.

Currently, the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai is working on the Vande Bharat sleeper train. Once launched for passengers, these trains will be for overnight trips covering long and extended distances. Also, one of these new sleeper trains is getting ready at Bengaluru’s BEML.

The 100-day plan of Indian Railways is also prioritising improving rail connectivity in Kashmir. Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramula Rail Link is a crucial development to link different parts of India with Kashmir. This significant plan aims to advance the important railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir. The construction process of the major Chenab Rail Bridge is finished. Right now, the construction process of the tunnels is ongoing that will link this bridge.
