Indian Railways Launches Jungle Tea Toy Train On Darjeeling Himalayan Route

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has launched a regular Jungle Tea Toy Train Safari on the Siliguri-Rongtong route of West Bengal. On August 30, 2021, Sanjay Chilwarwar, ADRM, Katihar division of NFR told ANI, “We have started a regular basis up-down jungle tea toy-train safari from today with the heritage steam engine and Vistadome dining car facilities.” He also added that since tourism is the only industry in the region, the authority is trying to operate maximum toy trains on the route to boost tourism.

The Toy Train Safari Will Take Tourists Through Lush Green Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary

The Jungle Tea Toy Train Safari will take tourists through the lush green Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and breathtaking mountains. Reportedly, the railway authority will also come up with a DHR heritage photo gallery at Sukna Station. At the Rongtong station, tourists can sip on a complimentary cup of refreshing Darjeeling tea. On August 25, the Darjeeling Toy Train from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to Darjeeling also resumed operations after being closed for around 17 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Services on the Darjeeling-Ghoom-Darjeeling train route has also restarted on August 16.

Vistadome Coach Introduced On Scenic Route Of North Bengal

A Wifi-enabled Vistadome coach has also been introduced on the scenic New Jalpaiguri-Alipurduar route of North Bengal. The glass ceilings and windows of the coach offer stunning views of the forests and rivers of the Dooars region. The cost per seat in this coach is ₹770/person. The coach has a total of 44 seats. Apart from the Vistadome coach, the train also has two AC chair car coaches, two general chair car coaches and two power-cum-luggage vans. It will run three days a week, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
