Indian Railways’ New Rules For Breakfast, Lunch And Dinner Explained

As we all know one can pre-book their catering services while booking tickets in the premium trains. But many times passengers do not pre-book the food and later demand it onboard. Recently, Indian Railways issued an order with respect to catering that said that the passengers who do not pre-book their catering service and then demand onboard will have to pay applicable onboard charges. 

Catering Charges Applicable On All Premium Trains

Shatabdi Express, Rajdhani Express, Vande Bharata Express, Tejas Express, Shatabdi Express and Duronto Express.are all Indian premium trains and the catering service charges will be applicable here for onboard food. The new order issued by Indian Railway Board includes a new rate chart which has prices of all the meals to be served onboard. Only tea and coffee will be at the same price no matter if it is pre-booked or not. The notice has clearly stated that those who will not have the catering services pre- booked will have to pay ₹50 as additional charges.

Meal Chart For Passengers

For Example, If the passengers are travelling in 1A or EC in Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi Express, the breakfast or evening snacks will charge ₹190 instead of ₹140 and lunch or dinner will cost ₹290 instead of ₹240 if you demand it onboard and haven’t pre-booked it. Or the passengers travelling in 2AC/CC/3C of Rajdhani, Duronto or Shatabdi Express, the morning breakfast will cost ₹190 instead of ₹140, lunch or dinner will cost ₹290 instead of ₹240 and evening snacks will cost ₹140 instead of ₹90. A separate fee schedule has also been published by the railways for Duronto Express passengers travelling in the Sleeper Class category. Previously the people who did not pre-book they had to pay an additional ₹50 while ordering and did not spare tea or coffee too.
