IRCTC Introduces New Prices For Meals On Premium Trains

IRCTC has made new changes in the food charges in the premium trains of Indian Railways. On one hand, the price of beverages like tea and coffee got cheaper, but the meals have got pricer. If you don’t pre-book your meals in advance or while booking the tickets, your breakfast, lunch and dinner will cost more. This order has been issued by the IRCTC for premium trains in India.

IRCTC Increases Prices Of Train Meals

Travellers who do not book the meals in advance will have to pay an amount of ₹50 extra to buy a meal during the journey. News reports say the following order will be issued on premium trains of the Indian Railways like the Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, Vande Bharat Express, Tejas Express and Duronto Express. IRCTC issued the new pricing list on July 15 which included a detailed list of all the meals and their prices to be made available to the passengers.

Surge In Meal Prices

Starting from breakfast and snacks at ₹190, onboard prices for lunch and dinner will be costing up to ₹295. The IRCTC has issued different pricing lists for passengers of different categories. Passengers will have to pay according to the category they travel in. There have been at least a ₹50 surge in the costs of all the meals which will be introduced in the Indian premium trains. Apart from this, GST will also be included in the meal charges and there will be no such extra charges taken from the passengers onboard.

The IRCTC on Monday also removed the extra charges on beverages that were being taken from the train passengers. A passenger, travelling by the Indian Railways too brought this issue to the notice of the public and authorities on how there were additional charges being taken on beverages like tea and coffee.
