India’s First Night Sanctuary To Come Up In Ladakh For Stargazers

Star gazing is an experience which you must do at least once. We can assure you it will be a memory that you will cherish for a lifetime. India nestles many such places where people can gaze at the dark sky to spot the brightest of stars, constellations and even moving satellites. In a bid to promote Astro tourism in India, Ladakh will be hosting ‘Night Sky Sanctuary’ in Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary. The project will be ready in the next three months, Union Minister, Jitendra Singh informed.

Night Sanctuary In Ladakh

This night sanctuary in Ladakh is named, Dark Sky Reserve, will be formed in Hanle in the next three months. Hanle is already famous for its Hanle Observatory. Before you go to these high altitude places for star gazing or staying, make sure you are well acclimatized to prevent any health complications. However, for the ones who can make it to this village, star gazing will be an amazing experience, as this village is one among the high altitude villages in Ladakh. After the night sanctuary is complete, it is best you visit Hanle during the summers as it remains frozen during the winters.

What Else To Do When In Hanle?

Apart from visiting the Hanle observatory, and the night sky sanctuary which is coming up in the next three months, you must see the Hanle Monastery. It belongs to the 17 century and is one of the most famous and acclaimed monasteries in Ladakh. What is unique about this monastery is its influence of both Indian and Chinese style of architecture. While visiting this place, it is best you carry your own food and water. The monastery is super close to the Tibetan border and the distance is lesser than 20km, making it a sensitive region.
