The village’s isolation is one of its defining features. Unlike popular tourist spots, Sural Bhatori has remained untouched by commercialisation. You won’t find bustling markets, fancy restaurants, or souvenir shops here—just a single local eatery and a small seasonal set-up for the few adventurous tourists who make it this far. The village derives its name from “Bhotia,” a term commonly used for the Buddhist communities inhabiting this region. The remoteness and sparse population make Sural Bhatori a place where solitude reigns supreme.
Despite its solitude, Sural Bhatori is rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. The village is surrounded by other small settlements like Hudan Bhatori, Chasak Bhatori, and the secretive Parmar Bhatori, all of which share the same quiet charm. A short drive above the village leads to a centuries-old monastery hidden among birch trees. This ancient monastery, adorned with paintings over 300 years old, offers a glimpse into the village’s deep spiritual roots.

Interestingly, lower villages are generally Hindu villages but the last ones are Buddhist Villages called “Bhatoris”.

Sural Bhatori also boasts a picturesque open meadow near the monastery, which serves as an ideal camping site. Whether you bring your own tent or simply bask in the serenity, the meadow provides an unparalleled experience of the Himalayan wilderness.
For the more adventurous, a hike from the village takes you to the breathtaking Chabi Waterfall, just 2-3 kilometres away. The waterfall, nearly 100 feet high, cascades down amidst high-altitude meadows, wild Himalayan flowers, and rugged mountain terrain.
