Their single malt, Rampur Asava wins the Best World Whisky award in the 2023 edition of the John Barleycorn Awards.

Rampur Asava Wins Best World Whisky

Both domestically and globally, Indian whisky brands are becoming increasingly successful. Rampur Asava Indian Single Malt Whisky wins at the John Barleycorn Awards for its remarkable quality and distinctive qualities. These awards are a prominent international spirits competition based in the United States. Moreover, the spirits are tasted blind to choose the absolute finest.

Most enthusiasts associate single malts with the Scottish Highlands. However, a unique group of Indian distilleries is gradually changing that notion. Thanks to a line of refined, locally crafted single malts, Indian whisky market seems to be getting its due credit. Furthermore, younger consumers, notably Generation Z and millennials, are increasingly choosing Indian whisky brands. India holds a stunning 48% of the world’s whisky market. Producers have successfully marketed Indian whiskies to countries like the US and UK, despite the bulk remaining within India.

According to an article by The Hindu, Rampur Asava has received gold awards at the International Spirits Challenge 2021 and the New York International Spirits Competition 2021.

What Makes Rampur Asava So Special?

Coming from Rampur distillery and the house of Radico Khaitan, Rampur Asava is a unique offering. The ageing process of the single malt results in a particular aroma, flavour, and appearance. It is the first single malt aged in American Bourbon barrels and finished in Indian Cabernet Sauvignon casks. The red wine casks add a dryness that complements the sweet aromas of apricot, manuka honey, and vanilla. The warming tones of wood improve the taste sensation. The aftertaste has a crisp flavour of pepper and baking spices.

Rampur’s creative approach to the maturing process sets it apart from other global whiskies. The whisky benefits from the contrasting temperature conditions of the Himalayas, especially during the famous Indian summer. The malt interacts with the barrel, leading to a maturation rate nearly four times faster than in Scotland.

Other intriguing whiskies from Rampur’s inventory include Rampur Select, Rampur PX Sherry Cask, and Rampur Double Cask.
