In a shocking incident, the staff of IndiGo airlines denied boarding to a specially-abled child and his parents at Ranchi Airport on May 7. This created an uproar on social media where IndiGo is being slammed by netizens for its apathetic behaviour with the passengers. Manisha Gupta a fellow passenger witnessed the incident first-hand and shared a Facebook post on the same which went viral. Read on to get all the details.
IndiGo Refuses Specially-Abled Child To Board Plane
In her Facebook post, Manisha Gupta stated that IndiGo staff refused to allow the specially-abled child to boarding as they said he was a risk to other passengers. The child needed to be ‘normal’ to be travel-worthy. The staff even said taht passengers who are drunk and have behaviour like this are also deemed unfit to travel. This resulted in an uproar at Ranchi airport. Doctors were also flying on the plane and asked the airport staff to consult the doctor. A government official boarding the flight protested that the child has the right to travel.

IndiGo Offered Hotel Stay & Allowed Family Board Next Day
Despite these valid arguments, the IndiGo staff refused to let the specially-abled child and his parents board the flight. The flight took off without the family. Later on, IndiGo issued a statement revealing that the airline made the family comfortable by providing them with hotel-stay and helping the family to fly the next morning to their destination. IndiGo in its statement said that the child was in a state of panic and the ground staff waited for him to calm down. They regret the inconvenience caused to passengers as it prides itself on inclusivity and has over 75,000 specially-abled passengers fly on IndiGo every month.
