Huma Qureshi, in an interview with Curly Tales’s Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, spoke about her father, Saleem Qureshi’s 45-year-old restaurant, Saleem’s in Delhi. The actor shared her father’s journey in establishing Delhi’s beloved restaurant for kebabs and Mughlai food. Saleem’s In Delhi Now Serves Batata Musallam As Ode To Tarla Dalal

Actress Huma Qureshi will play the role of India’s highly beloved home chef, Tarla Dalal in her upcoming biopic ‘Tarla’. Interestingly, the actor not only has the acting chops to play this magnanimous role but also comes from a food background. Her father, is the owner and founder of Saleem’s, an iconic restaurant in Delhi, that opened in 1977.

As the upcoming film ‘Tarla’ is already creating a frenzy amongst foodies in India, Saleem’s pays a special ode to Tarla Dalal. Despite mainly being known as a non-vegetarian restaurant, Huma’s father has launched a special vegetarian dish named ‘Batata Musallam’.

According to The Free Press Journal, Huma Qureshi said her father decided to introduce Batata Musallam at Saleem’s after watching the trailer of her film. The late Tarla Dalal, a vegetarian, was well known for reimagining iconic non-veg dishes into vegetarian ones. Her Batata Musallam, inspired by the Mughal-era Murg Musallam, replaces chicken with stuffed potatoes cooked in a rich gravy.

Huma Qureshi Visited The Restaurant With Co-Star Sharib Hashmi

The actor along with her co-star Sharib Hashmi visited Saleem’s to try her dad’s Batata Musallam while promoting her film, Tarla in Delhi. Earlier, Huma Qureshi recounted how the journeys of Saleem and home chef Tarla Dalal both started in the 70s. And today,50 years later, seeing the two worlds coverage makes the actor and foodie’s heart swell with pride.
