Instagrammer Calls Dal Fara ‘Desi Dumpling’ From Uttar Pradesh

Vanshika Agarwal, @tajholicfoodies, is an Agra-based food blogger who recently shared a video of a popular Uttar Pradesh breakfast dish called dal fara. In her video, she talked about the dish and how it resembles momos and called it ‘UP ke desi dumpling.” She explained how dal fara is much healthier than momos and is made with whole wheat flour and chana dal filling.

Unlike momos which are made with all-purpose flour (maida), dal fara is made with whole wheat flour (atta). The filling of this dish is prepared with chana dal, chillies, coriander, and all the desi spices. All the ingredients of the fillings are mixed to form a thick paste. The atta dough is then rolled out to form a puri-like shape that is then filled with the dal chana paste. Once done, they are sealed like dumplings and cooked in water for a while. Finally, after cutting them into smaller pieces, these dal faras are then given a tadka with all the veggies and species and enjoyed with a chutney.
