Italy’s Golden Visa, introduced in 2017, provides a two-year residency permit to individuals who invest in the country’s economy. The visa is renewable for three years and covers immediate family members, including spouses, children, and dependent parents. Applicants enjoy visa-free travel within the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180 days. Unlike other EU programmes, Italy’s version does not include real estate investment as a qualifying option.

Four Investment Routes To Apply

Applicants can choose from four government-approved investment paths to apply for this visa:

  • Innovative Start-ups: A minimum of €250,000 (approx. ₹2.25 crore) in an Italian start-up recognised as innovative.
  • Italian Companies: At least €500,000 (approx. ₹4.5 crore) invested in shares of an existing, operational Italian company.
  • Government Bonds: A secure option with a €2 million (approx. ₹18 crore) investment in Italian government bonds.
  • Philanthropic Donation: A contribution of €1 million (approx. ₹9 crore) to projects of public interest in culture, education, or the environment.

These investments are only required after the application is pre-approved, which reduces financial risk for the applicant.
