Jawadhu Hills Is Home To The Kavalur Observatory
Apart from the breathtaking natural beauty, Jawadhu Hills is also home to the Kavalur Observatory set up by astronomer Vaiu Bappu. The Indian Institute of Astrophysics operates this observatory that falls in the Tirupathur district. Manali Kallat Vainu Bappu had established the observatory in the quiet town of Kavalur in the year 1967. Nestled amid 40 acres of wilderness, the observatory houses the stunning Vainu Bappu Telescope, which is kenned to be so strong that it can resolve a 25 paise coin placed around 40 kilometres away. The Kavalur Observatory was renamed as Vainu Bappu Observatory in 1986, four years after Bappu passed away. The forest surrounding the observatory is inhabited by creatures like deer, snakes and scorpions.
