About The Project
The Jiribam-Imphal Railway line is 111 kilometres long and the cost of the project is ₹13,809 crore. The line includes 62 km of tunnels, 11 major bridges and 134 minor bridges, 12 road underbridges and 4 road overbridges. In addition to this, there are eight new railway stations included in the project. The prime motive of this railway line is to connect the capital of Manipur, Imphal, to the rest of the country via railway.
The railway line includes India’s longest tunnel called tunnel 12. Moreover, it also includes a parallel 9.35 km long safety tunnel, cross passages at every 500 metres for evacuation and is compliant with international technical specifications. This project is estimated to be completed in Dec 2023.
As for Imphal, the place is the capital of Manipur and a main tourist destination. It is home to Kangla Palace. Being one of the ancient cities, it is blessed with scenic beauty and greenery. Moreover, it is a land of many tribes and a cultural city.
