If you’ve lived in Dubai then Meena Bazaar is a name that will definitely bring a smile on any expat’s face. Tucked in with oodles of shopping and lip-smacking delicacies, this bazaar instantly reminds you of your hometown. While many of you might know the famous street food kiosks the bazaar offers, little is spoken about this 50-year old Indian restaurant that has been serving customers since 1968.
Travelling Back In Time
The Joshi restaurant in Meena Bazaar completed 50 years last March and is known for mind-blowing thalis and snacks. It all started off when Kaku Maharaj, (the 60-year-old owner) and his brothers created magic in the kitchen. Soon, their cooking skills became a huge hit among the Bhatia community that they decided to start a restaurant. That was how Joshi was born! Back then, Joshi was the only restaurant/cafe that attracted the Indian community in Bur Dubai.
Back then, Joshi was the only restaurant which served thali and office goers would come all the way from Deira to savor the delicious curries, vegetables, bread and yoghurt that came with the thali. The thali was sold at INR 100 back then. However, today a regular thali at Joshi will cost you AED 20. And in case you are one with a big appetite, try the Bhatia thali. Priced at AED 40, the thali is more elaborate with delicious additions.
What Else?
Earlier, Joshi was all about thalis and samosas, but today, the restaurant has a little something for every foodie.
