The answer to “How long is too long?” is very uncertain while waiting at airports to catch a flight. Passengers often slam airlines and airports for making them wait for hours for necessary checks and clearance. This time, a journalist ranted about the long queues at Delhi Airport’s T3.
Journalist Complained About “Crawling Snaking Queues” At Delhi Airport T3
Early morning flights from Delhi T3 is nightmare! 2nd time in few days-crawling snaking queues-#Digiyatra or non-DigiYatra (am here) doesn’t matter. Entered at 5am, still only half way through queue. Security check now takes anywhere between 30-60 mins for domestic flights. pic.twitter.com/rPdNl6pSG4

Journalist Smita Sharma took to the X (formerly Twitter) platform to share her experience of catching a flight from Delhi Airport Terminal 3. T3 was crammed with passengers waiting to complete all the mandated steps before boarding their flights. As shown in the video, queues of flyers were standing for their turn.
We all know DigiYatra’s key purpose and its effects to ease the process of identifying passengers at key checkpoints. However, the system did not help to that effective extent here. Smita Sharma shared, “DigiYatra or non-DigiYatra (am here) doesn’t matter.”
She reached the airport at 5 AM for her early morning flight. The journalist updated Netizens stating that she went only halfway through the long queue in 27 minutes. According to the X post, the process of security checks takes around 30 to 60 minutes for passengers travelling on domestic flights.
Not sure about you but I have been living in Delhi for last 22 years and am a frequent flyer. This was the same situation a week ago too when I had tweeted. Kindly don’t preach without basis.

X user Dr. Viswaraja Sasikumar pointed out that security checks usually increase in Delhi ahead of Independence Day and this caused the jam-packed condition at the airport. The journalist responded that it is a common situation at Delhi airport and she shared about a similar incident a week ago as well.
Netizens Faced Similar Experiences Too
Waiting for a long time, especially for security checks looks like a never-ending problem. Many of us have experienced the same while boarding a flight from a busy airport. X users replied to journalist Smita Sharma’s post and shared their journeys inside the airport premises. An X user highlighted the rush and high alerts for the upcoming Independence Day long weekend and called “Security check is the biggest bottleneck.”
According to several replies, security clearance for international flights is way longer than flying domestic. Here’s what Netizens have to say about the chaos at Delhi airport.
Had the same experience three days back while flying international. Massive queues. But sure what’s causing the delays.

I caught a flight on Sunday after crazy rains. Reached 3 hours before flight but just about managed to catch a flight. 20 minutes to enter the airport. 40 minutes for check in. Another 40 for customs. Another 40 for security. Bad scene.

Security check is the biggest bottleneck, and the advance of an extended weekend coupled with 15th August High Alerts, are making airports an absolute nightmare.

Agree with you, early morning flights are a nightmare.
— Maj Gen (Dr) YashMor (@YashMor5) August 12, 2024
Totally agree. It was a mess two weeks ago. Had to rush from one corner of the international terminal, immigration, baggage collection, domestic check in again (while the staff tell you to hurry up as its the last gate) and then back to another corner of the domestic terminal.

I was at Delhi airport yesterday & took an international flight my experience was more worse, reported to @DelhiAirport and they asked me to connect on a message. For AM hours International flight security clearance took roughly around 55 mins and Immigration was exactly 40min.

You are still lucky. For international flight, it took 90 min day before, whether travelling business or economy. Highly chaotic and mismanaged

Have you waited for a long time at Delhi Airport for a security check before boarding a flight?
