“Justice For Medu Vada,” Protest Netizens After Noodles Vada Takes Over The Internet

Food vlogger @thegreatindianfoodie posted a reel on his Instagram handle on a Noodles Vada sold in a stall in Maharashtra. In the reel, a vendor first cuts a medu vada in half and stacks it aside. Another vendor picks up the cut vada and douses it with mayonnaise and schezwan sauce. Next, the slit vada is stuffed with fiery red-coloured hakka noodles and almost resembles a vada pav. The vadas stuffed with noodles are kept aside.

“Justice For Medu Vada,” Protest Netizens After Noodles Vada Takes Over The Internet

Have you ever come across a dish that has just left you squirming? Where you can’t help but turn your head away from looking at the abomination in front of you? As a South Indian, for me, it’s the viral Noodles Vada sold somewhere in a street food stall in Maharashtra. Haven’t heard of it? Well, let’s take you right into the mayhem!

Noodles Vada Takes Over The Internet

Food vlogger @thegreatindianfoodie posted a reel on his Instagram handle on a Noodles Vada sold in a stall in Maharashtra. In the reel, a vendor first cuts a medu vada in half and stacks it aside. Another vendor picks up the cut vada and douses it with mayonnaise and schezwan sauce. Next, the slit vada is stuffed with fiery red-coloured hakka noodles and almost resembles a vada pav. The vadas stuffed with noodles are kept aside.

As orders come in, a Noodles Vada is picked up, topped with South Indian coconut chutney and more churmur and served in red paper plates. A plate of Noodles Vada that comes with two pieces costs about ₹30. The vendors work in clockwork, almost in synchronisation with each other. But the Indo-Chinese fiery-red coloured noodles stuffed in a proper South Indian medu vada, and the flavours a mix of Chinese sauces and coconut chutney have many in a fix.

Netizens Put Off By The Fusion Dish

One Netizen jokingly asked about ‘Idli Pasta’, another protested for justice to medu vada. A few commenters even pointed out at the hygiene issues in the stall. One even calling it a ‘direct ticket to a hospital’. A person even called it a ‘Continental Khichdi’. Taking offence to the dish, people demanded two cuisines to kept separate rather than mixing them together and making a fusion concoction.
