Abu Dhabi is gearing up for the return of the 11th Korea Festival, a much-anticipated annual event that initially graced its presence in 2013. This grand celebration of South Korean culture is scheduled to run from October 27 to 29 in Abu Dhabi.

The Venue:
This year’s two-day extravaganza is set to take place at the picturesque Umm Al Emarat Park, known for its serene landscapes and tranquil ambience. This beautiful setting will provide the perfect backdrop for the lively and captivating Korean performances. Additionally, the Korean Cultural Centre on Yas Island will be home to exquisite artworks by South Korean artists, fan meet and greets, and the UAE Korean Speech Contest.
The Performances:
The festival’s lineup is nothing short of spectacular, featuring K-pop concerts, traditional Korean instrument performances, and enchanting Korean songs. A particular highlight is the K-maestro, a stage production celebrating the 70th anniversary of the National Gugak Centre. It will showcase Pansori and Sanjo performances, among others. Pansori was granted the prestigious status of South Korea’s National Intangible Cultural Property No. 5 in 1964 to safeguard its unique cultural heritage. Furthermore, in 2003, it earned recognition as a UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in Korea.
Another captivating performance comes from the Namwon City Traditional Art Troupe. They will grace the stage with modern interpretations of traditional acts, aiming to convey a message of peace and prosperity. Namwon, a city located in the southern region of South Korea, is renowned for its three traditional performance genres: Heungtaryeong, which vividly portrays the poignant aspects of life, love, and separation through mournful lyrics; Taepyeongmu, symbolizing a desire for peace; and Samulnori, a representation of village celebrations that unite entire communities.
A recently formed boy band named Dios will have the opportunity to perform twice in Abu Dhabi at Umm Al Emarat Park as they make their debut in the UAE. They will have one solo performance and another as part of the Kite: K-pop in the Emirates concert.
