Kalashtami is celebrated every month on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha. On this day, devotees worship Lord Shiva’s fierce form, Lord Bhairav and seek his blessings. Significance & Importance Of Kalashtami
Kalashtami is celebrated to seek blessings and protection, remove obstacles and negative energy, and nurture love and joy in one’s life. It is observed every month on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha (the waning phase of the moon). This day honours Lord Bhairav, who is revered as a protector and remover of negativity.
While Kalashtami is celebrated every month, the most significant one, often called Kalabhairav Jayanti or Bhairav Ashtami, falls in the month of Margashirsha according to the North Indian Purnima-to-Purnima lunar calendar. In the South Indian Amavasya-to-Amavasya lunar calendar, Kalabhairav Jayanti is celebrated in the Kartik month.
Despite this difference, both observe Kalabhairav Jayanti on the same day. Devotees believe that on this day, Lord Shiva took the form of Lord Bhairav to destroy evil forces and protect dharma. People observe fast and pray to Lord Bhairav to resolve all their issues related to health, wealth, and legal matters. According to Drik Panchang, Kalabhairav Jayanti this year will fall on November 12.

Fasting & Rituals To Follow
Kalashtami is a spiritual opportunity to cleanse your mind, seek divine protection, and align yourself with the higher energies of the universe. If you do plan to observe fast on this day, then here are some rituals to keep in mind –
1. Devotees often keep a strict fast from sunrise to moonrise. While some people don’t eat anything throughout the day, others consume fruits and water.
2. People perform Lord Bhairav puja while chanting specific mantras. They offer things like black sesame seeds, mustard oil, incense sticks, and flowers as well.
3. Dogs are considered the sacred vehicle of Lord Bhairav. On Kalashtami, devotees feed dogs milk, bread, or sweets.
4. Many people also stay awake through the night to pray or read spiritual scriptures.
